New Insights into Infant Brain Injury - Monday, Oct. 3 2005 - Reporting in the October issue of Pediatrics
Experts at Children's Hospital Boston have reported that when the cerebrum is injured in a premature infant, the cerebellum fails to grow to a normal size - which can have a major impact on development of motor coordination, behavior and even cognition. The authors reported that the two structures appear to modulate each other's growth and development in the infant. This finding hopefully will lead to methods of avoiding further brain damage in a developing child with brain injuries. SOURCE: Children's Hospital Boston, news release, Oct. 3, 2005
